It's absense can lead to Cancer (see also Oncogene)
If a pair of tumor suppressor genes are either lost from a cell or inactivated by mutation, their functional absense might allow cancer to develop.
Tumor suppressor gene은 Oncogene과 다르게 두개의 대립유전자 가운데, 둘 다 고장나야 의미가 있다. 이를 "Two-hit hypothesis" 혹은 Knudson hypothesis이라고 한다.
