중력은 Fundamental interaction 가운데 가장 작은데, 거리에 비례하여 강해지고, 밀도가 충분히 커지면, 전자기력을 이기고 중성자별(Neutron star)이 되며, 강한 핵력을 이기면 한 점(Gravitational singularity)이 되면서 빛 조차도 빨아드리게 된다. 빛이 탈출할 수 있는 지점을 사건 지평선(Event horizon)이라고 하고, 블랙홀은 호킹복사(Hawking radiation)에 의해 점점 작아진다. 다양한 규모의 블랙홀이 가능하며, LHC와 같은 입자 충돌 실험을 통해서 작은 블랙홀이 만들어질 가능성도 있다.
